In 2015, Vassiliki Akriotou created her first range of wines from a micro-winery in the heart of Greece. The vineyards are situated among the snow-capped mountains at altitudes of 280 to 380 metres above sea level. The wine is packaged under the brand name of Ορειβάτης, which translates as the ‘Mountaineer’ and indicates the diffigult path one must take to produce high quality wines. This sublime Savatiano, made from 45 year old vines, is a true expression of this fresh mountainous terroir. The other 2 Orivates ( the roze made by Syrah and the red made by Pinot Noir) want to provide a mediteranian expression of Vsikis beloved international varieties.
The winemaker- oinologist Vasilik Akriotou made her first wine series under the brand name of Ορειβάτης, which translates as the ‘Mountaineer’ a name intended to allude to the difficulties one has to face in the course of producing high quality wine.
At the 2020 vintage the winemaker - oinologist Vasiliki Akriotou decided to take advance of a small vineyard situated in the village Kathenoi in Central Evia and blend her beloved Savatiano (50%) with the famous Santorinis Varieties Asyrtico (38%) & Aidani (12%). The wine is called " The Hermit" and took its name from the location of the vineyard.
One of the most cosmopolitan varieties in the world finds its way to the Greek vineyard in a version completely different from the few existing ones. For the first time unoaked, the Pinot Noir gave into the hands of oenologist Vassiliki Akriotis a fine and exquisite red wine.
